Little Night Studio – January 30

About the Instructor

My art journey began by creating simple paper collages that eventually evolved into sculptural forms on wire armatures. Two of the things I love most about paper is that it’s strong, yet fragile, and common, but also sophisticated. I’ve made paper from pulp, but when I discovered handmade specialty papers in a local art store, I was like a kid in a candy store!

I call this process “painting with paper” because I utilize many of the color application and mixing techniques that I learned in painting classes I took when I was working on my teaching degree. As in acrylic painting, where you can paint over an area, you can layer one paper on top of another paper to get expected and unexpected results! I still make mixed media assemblages and sculpture, but I always circle back to my first, and favorite, medium.
