J. Elaine Senack

Artist Statement

I’ve always found creative inspiration in the beauty of the natural world. From my native woodlands in New England to the towering mountains of Montana and the rocky coastline of Maine, the plants and wildlife I encounter provide the backdrop and subject matter for my art. More than anything else, it’s the undisturbed beauty of a landscape, the quiet moments of birds and animals that I seek to capture and share. I find myself drawn to observe the world more closely, perceiving the dynamic variety of hues in nature. It’s often this careful observation, the more intimate settings, that reveal beauty in even the most commonplace scenes and wildlife. In a world that is fast-paced and often far removed from natural things, I aim to provide a peaceful reminder of the beautiful creatures with whom we share this earth. I hope that my paintings will help build an appreciation for the natural world and a desire to preserve and protect it.

The soft ruffled feathers of a mourning dove preening, and the large peering eyes of a barred owl, these are the quiet moments in nature captured in the paintings of J. Elaine Senack. Her fascination for the natural world is reflected in the detailed realism of her acrylic paintings. Born in St. Jean, Quebec, Canada, J. Elaine Senack grew up in a suburb of Montreal, an area with few trees and little nature. At the age of eight, Senack’s family moved to Connecticut, settling in a home bordering many acres of forest. As she explored the woodlands and learned about the creatures that inhabited it, it was there that her love of nature bloomed. While in her twenties, Senack moved to Montana and was inspired by the majestic mountains and herds of wildlife in nearby Yellowstone National Park. She returned to Connecticut and eventually started a family. After years of balancing work and family obligations, she made the decision to focus on her art full-time.

Ms. Senack is a Member of the International Guild of Realism, an Elected Member of the American Artists Professional League, a member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, The Lyme Art Association, and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. J. Elaine Senack has received awards in international and regional competitions and shows. Two of J. Elaine Senack’s paintings are published in “AcrylicWorks6 – The Best of Acrylic Painting”, a book featuring some of the world’s best acrylic paintings. Senack has exhibited at the Salmagundi Club in New York City, NY, the Museum of Art and History in Santa Cruz, CA, the Denver Botanic Gardens in Denver, CO, Red Fox Gallery in Wilton, CT, Mills Pond Gallery in St. James, NY, The Lyme Art Association Gallery in Old Lyme, CT, the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C. and The Eisele Gallery of Fine Art in Cincinnati, Ohio, among other locations.
